June Countdown Program in MLB The Show: Top Cards
We're in the thick of mid-season drama across MLB, and the 2026 All-Star Game is just around the corner. SDS kept things interesting this week by dropping a fresh program style alongside the usual Diamond Dynasty content. Let's dig into what's worth your time and what's best left on the bench.
Mookie Betts: 300th Homer Commemoration
Future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts cracked his 300th career home run, and SDS rolled out the inevitable commemorative program. The reward is a free Red Diamond Mookie (96 OVR) that you can earn through the program or buy on the marketplace. Honestly, this card doesn't excite me – the attributes are mediocre for a 96. It's a prime candidate for a Diamond Parallel Mod, but on its own it's just okay.
June Countdown Program – Time-Limited and Refreshing
The June Countdown program is a neat experiment: a timed event that expires early next week, blending online and offline missions split by difficulty tiers. The missions are creative – things like tallying 1,500 PXP with Supercharged players or, for the hardcore set, striking out 24 batters in a single game. Even if you don't finish the whole program, early rewards include a couple of cards you can flip on the marketplace. Plus, there's a ton of XP and Stubs on offer.
The real star of this program is Zack Britton (96 OVR), unlocked at 50 stars. He's an elite #2 closer with a max-Break sinker and a 99-Break slider. The 4-seamer and circle change have absurdly low usage (1%), so your PAR will be tiny. This card is absolutely worth the grind.
Awards Ronald Acuña Jr.
Also dropping this week is an Awards Ronald Acuña Jr. (96 OVR). It's a solid, balanced card that plays well in the outfield, but it doesn't blow you away on paper. Like many of these cards, it shines with a Diamond Parallel Mod once you reach P5. Think of it as a "greatest hits" Acuña – good across the board, but not a standout.
Spotlight Drop and Packs
This week's Spotlight content features a mix of pitchers and position players. The must-grab is Dustin May (96 OVR SP, STL). May is a community favorite, and this card has elite velocity and nasty break on every pitch. With a Diamond Parallel 5 Mod, he becomes an endgame starter. Other notables in the pack include Colt Keith (3B, 96 OVR), Justin Dean (CF, 94 OVR), Dalton Rushing (C, 94 OVR), and Kyle Bradish (SP, 94 OVR). The weekly unlocks are Nasim Nunez (2B, 96 OVR), Cooper Pratt (SS, 94 OVR), and Kyle Freeland (SP, 94 OVR) – all serviceable but not game-changers.
Gauntlet Mini Season: Joe Mauer
Joe Mauer (96 OVR catcher, #5 in DD) is the Gauntlet Mini Season reward. He does everything well: elite contact, decent power, strong arm behind the plate, and the ability to play first base. But unlocking him is a slog – you need 20,000 PXP in the Mini Season, with many missions on Hall of Fame difficulty. Fortunately, you earn PXP faster on HoF, and stacking this with the June Countdown program makes the grind more rewarding.
Moonshot II Event
Moonshot II is back: load up your best hitters against bronze and lower pitchers. The extra rewards aren't amazing, but the event is a blast for grinding PXP and offensive stats. It's an easy way to make progress on various missions.
Castellanos and Harper: Mixed Bag
Nick Castellanos (96 OVR) is a pure DH with a great swing and massive power. He'll crush bombs, but he's best on a Reds theme team. SDS didn't honor the famous meme, which is a missed opportunity.
Bryce Harper (98 OVR Chase card) commemorates his cycle. He has every offensive quirk you'd want and the best swing in the game, but his fielding is terrible, even for first base, and he has no secondary positions. For a 300,000 Stub card, I'd expect more – but with a Diamond Parallel Mod, he becomes a top-tier hitter.
